In June 1926, two golfing members of the club brought honor to Kent. George Getz and Glen Reed, representing our club won  the Clarksburg trophy at the Acacia Golf Club at Clarksburg, West Virginia. The Clarksburg Rotary club had presented this trophy to Rotary International  in 1916 to be completed for annually.

Also in 1926, as a public service to Kent, signs for the main approaches to the city were purchased and erected by the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.

Many of our club members traveled to Youngstown in October of 1927, to hear Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, who was the honored guest of the Youngstown club that day.

Finally, the largest and most impressive meeting ever held in Kent was the reception given November 14, 1927 to Arthur Sapp, President of Rotary International by the Rotarians of Portage County. The dinner was served in the beautifully decorated gymnasium of the Kent State Teachers College (later known as Wills Gym. There were 1103 Rotarians seated at tables and  the galleries were packed with interested spectators. Arthur Sapp had grown up in Ravenna and had relocated to Huntington, Indiana. Upon his introduction, the Rotarians arose as one and greeted him with prolonged cheers accompanied by the “Chautauqua Salute”.

Who can tell us what the “Chautauqua Salute” is?
