Today’s Program:

Kathy Myers, Program Chair, introduced today’s speakers, Chase Leonelli and Jacy Watson from the Sequoia Fitness and Wellness Center located on the NEOMED campus in Rootstown. Since February is Heart Health month, they are taking the message of the benefits of planned exercise to the community. They noted that inactivity is the 4th leading risk for mortality and that the average American spends 6.5 hours per day sitting.

They encouraged everyone to fit exercise into their daily routine using these techniques:
  • Schedule It – prioritize your exercise
  • Get Support – work out with a buddy
  • Have a Plan – create a backup in case something unexpected causes you to cancel an exercise session
  • Find Something You Enjoy – avoid exercise routines you find unpleasant
  • Create Goals – focus on smart, small steps

Chase then led the group in practicing some easy exercises anyone can do while sitting at his or her desk or on an airplane.

Jacy pointed out that new members at Sequoia get a free risk assessment and that group exercise classes at the facility are included with the monthly fee.

David McKeen offered the club response thanking the speakers and noting his successful experience as a member at Sequoia.

Respectfully submitted,
Thomas Hatch
