In January 1941, there was an interesting meeting of the club in which the speakers were Kent Rotarians. Howard Hall, Vice Chairman of the Program Committee, presented a meeting related to the community obligations of the Club. Jim Green spoke on “Re-dedicating Ourselves to Kent”; George Morse discussed “Visualize Growth of Kent State University” and “Our Industries” and “Work for a Larger and Better Kent”; and Roy Donaghy talked on “Help Develop Kent Through Membership in the Chamber Of Commerce”.Death laid a heavy hand on Kent Rotary during the year, removing four active members. Dr. William B Andrews, Judge Carl H Curtis, School Board Member, Ira R. Marsh, who died in an automobile accident and Porter B. Hall. Of the latter, during his membership in Rotary, the Club enjoyed Porter’s genial smile, hardy hand clasp and his ever present overflowing wit and humor. These characteristics combined with the principles as outlined in the Rotary Code Of Ethics were carried into his daily life.
Interesting that his great grandson Tom Hall possesses these same wonderful qualities and carries on 4 generations of membership! Porter, Howard, Porter and Tom.
