Another reminder of our 100 year history.

While I’ve been recalling how our club managed to survive during the Great Depression of the 1930’s, let’s step back a decade to remember what happened 100 years ago on tomorrow’s date.

The Kent Club was elected by unanimous consent to membership in Rotary International on November 1, 1920 and was awarded charter No. 777.  Because of the non-receipt of the necessary legal documents from national headquarters, the meeting tentatively announced for November 10, 1920, could not be held. The charter and other necessary papers were received November 18, 1920; and the date for the formal installation was fixed for Thursday, December 2, 1920.

Here is an excerpt from the Kent Courier’s announcement to its readers:

“With a delightful 6 o’clock dinner in the beautiful dining room of the Franklin hotel on Thursday evening December 2nd the Rotary club of Kent was launched and is now sailing on a smooth sea with every indication of a successful voyage.”

A most significant date in our 100 year history!
