Rotareminder for the Rotary Club of Kent

While we got settled at our tables, Mrs. Roeger entertained us with a delightful medley of holiday piano music.
President Rachel called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. Her trivia question was: In the movie “A Christmas Story,” what exactly did Ralphie want for Christmas? Dennis Campbell came closest to the correct answer, which is “a Red Ryder Carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle” with a compass in the stock.
Our patriotic song was “America,” led by Dominique Bollenbacher and accompanied by Mrs. Roeger on piano, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation by John Flynn.
Our song was “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” accompanied by Mrs. Roeger on piano.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Bill Childers thanked the recent Kent Rotary Salvation Army bell ringers and announced that ringers are still needed this Friday at Giant Eagle from 2:00 to 4:00 and 4:00 to 6:00.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Before introducing Student of the Month Isabella “Izzy” Goldschmidt, Theodore Roosevelt High School Principal Dennis Love reminded us that former TRHS principal and Rotarian Roger Sidoti started Cookie Day at the school, a day students love.
Dennis then informed us that Izzy’s many achievements include several AP courses, classes at Kent State, and excelling in English and French. Izzy is a National Merit Scholar and a National Honor Society member. Words that Izzy’s teachers have used to describe her include leader, helpful, and trustworthy. Izzy may attend Kent State University, but whatever she does in life, she wants to help others.
TODAY’S PROGRAM
We were treated today by a performance of the fourteen members of the Theodore Roosevelt High School ACES, led by choir director Corey Fowler. Mr. Fowler informed us that the ACES are also members of the larger Choral Works but must audition to be in ACES and rehearse daily at 6:40 a.m. ACES holiday schedule has included performances in Peninsula in a snowstorm, in Akron at the John S. Knight Center, at the Festival of Lights in Kent, and at Kent Coterie 1.
