“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
Always inspired by that quote, I am reminded how the small acts of others are necessary to complete any project or simply "change the world". Being a Rotarian, we are often reminded that there are many ways to volunteer or donate our time back to a greater mission. Whether that be service to another agency or non-profit in our community...or service to our own club by stepping up in a leadership capacity. Whatever one chooses the decision to contribute is not only good for the organization you support with time, but it's personally good for your own spirit. The joy we receive from kind acts of contribution are immeasurable. According to Rotary International, Rotary members contribute 47 million hours of volunteerism annually. This service work is estimated to be worth $850,000.00 per year. What tremendous contributions Rotarians make each year and what positive changes they make with this donation of time. As the summer season kicks off, and as my Presidency comes to an end, I am asking my fellow Rotarians to once again think about meaningful ways that they can join in by volunteering. If you have just two hours of time, sign up to work at the Heritage Fest or some other collaborative event we are scheduled to support! Or if you feel compelled to volunteer in a more direct and meaningful way with your club in the upcoming year...reach out to your board members who will be happy to move you into a new volunteer direction. Finally, just a small reminder that Rotary's mission is plain and simple: SERVICE ABOVE SELF. Please consider how important that is as you move forward as a Kent Rotarian and always focus on ways you can do a little more so that we as Kent Rotarians can "serve more" people in our incredible community. Thank you all for your incredible gifts of time, talent, and treasure this past year. I look forward to seeing you all in the upcoming year too. See you all Tuesday!
