Speaker

Mary Beth Harper introduced superintendent of Kent City Schools, George Joseph, who will speak to the NO NEW TAX bond issue scheduled for the March 17, 2020 ballot, also known as ISSUE 6.

The idea for the NO NEW TX Bond Issue (NNTBI) was bore out of the most recent five-year strategic plan developed by the Kent City Schools with input from the broader community.  The general message from the community was the need to enhance safety in the learning environment for students, as well as maintain the community’s investment in the schools.  The NNTBI is designed to raise ~$25mm that would be allocated across three key areas:
  • Improve safety and security.
  • Improve the instructional environment.
  • Improve the performing arts and athletic facilities.
In a clever and timely move, the school district has devised a plan to fund these initiatives without increasing the tax burden on residents of the Kent community – NNTBI.  This Bond Issue will replace an expiring bond issue from twenty years ago, that was used for the construction of Stanton Middle School as well as renovations to Roosevelt HS and Davey Elementary.

Superintendent George Joseph is committed to holding public meetings every Wednesday evening until March, at the school board offices to raise awareness and field questions community residents may have.
