Various members of the Rotary club actively participated in the war effort by occupying positions of responsibility in the home front program.

Hale Thompson was appointed chairman of Civilian Defense Committee of the Kent Chamber of Commerce in 1941 which was recorded in 1942 as the official organization of the Office of Civilain Defense;
Joe Escott supervised the Air Raid Wardens; Jim Engleman was appointed the first chairman of the Selective Service Board and upon his death was succeeded by Paul Brehm; Lawrence Bundy served as chairman of the food panel of the Rationing Board; Jim Greene headed the citizens committee on Bond sales; and Karl Leebrick supervised the Cadet Air Corps at Kent State University. After Karl resigned, the supervisory work was carried on by Ray Clark. Another Rotarian, George Morse was elected President  of the Kent Chamber of Commerce in January 1943.
