Four more  members of the Kent Rotary entered military service in 1943-44. Honorary service memberships were conferred on the following: Dewey Barich, Bill Getz, Karl Leebrick, and Dick Wiland. Due to war conditions, the International Convention was not held this year.

The final meeting of the year was a picnic for Rotarians and their families held at Lake Martin June 27, 1944, upon the invitation of Martin Davey . A picnic lunch was arranged. The weather was perfect and most enjoyable evening was given to the Rotarians and their families. There were games for both adults and children, and there was boating and fishing on Lake Martin.

In accordance with custom, the retiring president was  presented a past president button. The one fastened to the coat lapel of the retiring president John Painter by new President Art Perry on July 18, 1944 had a distinctive significance as it was the one worn by President Jim Engleman and presented to the club by his children after his death. During the 10 years of his administration as President of Kent State University, he  visioned the greatness of the future of this educational institution and it’s continued development will be a lasting tribute to his wisdom and guidance.
