This is our last week to order lunch before Tuesday.  If you haven’t signed up for lunch yet, here’s the link.   https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rotary-lunch-8312021-tickets-168644585495 This week we will have Erie Street Kitchen providing a chicken and salad buffet for our club. More details are available on the Eventbrite registration page. Cost is $13 each and orders need to be in no later than 2:00 pm on Monday, August 30th.  Once again, we will provide bottled water.  Thanks Amanda Senn for organizing this lunch (and all our lunches for the summer)!  Rachel Kerns and Chas Madonio offered help and support, but the yeoman’s job was done by Amanda.

Last week we had the pleasure of meeting Kent School’s new teachers for the 21-22 school year.  They were all impressive with the amount of work experience they have entering into the year.  Thank you, Tom Larkin, for making the introductions!  Thanks, too, to Anthony Horton for hosting our meeting at Stanton Middle School.  It’s been years since I’ve been in the building and it looks just a good as it did then.  Last week in his 100th anniversary moment, Jim Myers reported that there was a scandal in our club in the 1947-48 school year when member Dr. John Painter charged fellow Kent Rotarian, Superintendent H.P. Smith with having unsanitary conditions in the Kent’s school buildings. Current Kent Superintendent George Joseph need not worry about a similar problem this year.

I am on my way to California to work on party prep for my mom’s 90th birthday celebration and family reunion and will not be at the meeting on Tuesday.  President-elect Dave will be running the meeting before flying out later this week to join the fun.

Dave will have shirt samples and a sign-up sheet at the meeting.  As I mentioned last Tuesday, the polo shirts for both men and women are sized as expected.  The men’s t-shirts are also sized as expected.  The ladies’ t-shirts were very snug.  Our vendor got samples of two more shirts for me to check out.  While they also have a slim cut, I liked one better than the others.  It is very soft, has a more comfortable neckline and is a cotton/polyester blend (which, hopefully will keep shrinkage down). We will order those.  Ladies, if you’re in doubt of your size, either order up, or order a men’s/unisex shirt.

Our Tuesday program will be Kent’s new Fire Chief and one of our newest Rotarians, Bill Myers.  I know it will be a great program.

Program Chair, Asad Khan, has a great lineup of programs for September.  His theme will be Women in Leadership.  It’s the perfect time to invite guests and potential club members to join us.

Let’s Serve to Change Lives!

With gratitude,
