Here is my note for the week: 

 

I am thoroughly enjoying "How To" month and from the participation we had this week I'd say the rest of the club is enjoying it as well. What an interesting and impressive presentation we had this week from Kirk Gordon as he walked us through creating stained glass lamp shades. It's such a unique hobby to pick up - and I hate even calling it a hobby because when you have clients around the world it is obviously much more than that. We don't often think about the materials and labor that go into the pieces around our homes that we love and hearing Kirk talk about choosing the glass and how many hours go into each lamp shade gave me a new appreciation for the beautiful items around me. And of course we also have to thank his wife and business manager Shawn Gordon ;) Everyone, remember to check your attics for any family heirlooms!

Adopt a Spot: We usually have a handful of Rotarians who plant flowers around the gazebo for Main Street Kent's annual Adopt a Spot program. Please let me know by next meeting if you are interested in participating.

Introduction- Mary Beth- How to Month

Speaker- Kirk Gordon, husband to our very own Shawn Gordon. He started his hobby of making Tiffany stained glass lampshades in 1981. He went over the history of the Tiffany shades, which started in the 1890s. Paul Christ was a mentor of sorts and helped make the process that is widespread now. The glass is very important, and the tools he uses is very important as well. He gets to go to a glass store over in Pennsylvania, it is his candy store. His work is on the front cover of the national calendar. There is still original Tiffany glass out there for repairs. He has created 30-40 so far.
