A note from President Amanda
Hello Rotary friends! I know we have many animal lovers in our club and most of us view our pets as family members.  Dr. Theresa Heibel and her staff at Memorial Animal Hospital have years of invaluable experience when it comes to caring for our furry friends. I did not realize how many services they offer that other local vets may not. I enjoyed hearing a speaker talk about their journey and how they ended up in Kent - especially from as far away as Kansas. It's always nice to get a glimpse into their past as well as their family life. Memorial Animal Hospital is a neighbor that many of us have truly come to rely on.

Speaking of dogs...remember that the Madonio Animal Trust, Dog Days of Summer in Downtown Kent is next Saturday, Aug. 16th from 11am to 4pm.

If you are interested in attending the Rotary Guardians game next Friday, Aug. 15th please let Nithya know ASAP!

*The meeting on August 19th will be held at Stanton Middle School where we will get to meet the new teachers for Kent City School this school year!

Sincerely,
Amanda Senn

Anne Moneypenny introduced the speaker: Dr. Theresa Heibel from Memorial Animal
Hospital.

Presentation: Dr. Heibel has 2 kids who have a love for sports and animals. Her kids are
involved in 4h, which is very important to them and helps make community connections.
Dr. Heibel started out as a traveling large animal vet before she settled into her vet
practice in Kent. She worked with her mentor Dr. Batel and eventually took over his
practice when he retired. They built a new building 11 years ago that is 14,000 square
feet and have been able to expand their practice to thrive as a vet team. They have
been able to bring new technology and have been able to adapt to the changes that
Covid brought. She explained how before Covid pets were viewed as companions, after
they are now viewed more as family. Because of this change there has been an
increase in how many times a year people take their animals to the vet. She spoke
about how she has to get creative with the resources, treatments, etc to meet people
and pets where they are. For example, some may not be able to afford a certain
treatment or may not be able to exercise their dog a certain amount of times a day – so
she gets creative with their plans.

Chaz Madonio responded and thanked Dr. Heibel for her presentation and spoke highly
of her vet services. She has treated his animals and has been a supporter of the Dog
days of summer since the beginning.
