Rotary Club of Kent meeting minutes
ROTAREMINDER for April14, 2020
Meeting Opening: After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Bill Childers provided the Invocation.
Announcements:
President Roger announced that Zoom has improved their security, but he still gets requests from phone numbers he doesn't know asking to join the meeting. He read off several of these. He asked that you text him with your identification information if you were one of them.
He then said there are three new members waiting for induction into Rotary. The Board will decide if they should be inducted virtually and given access to our meetings. Asad Khan asked if after this crisis is over, if these new members could be introduced to the Club in the traditional way at a meeting. Roger thought that was a good idea.
President Roger has been contacted by Hal DuBois about Kent Rotary partnering with the DuBois family foundation in acquiring PPE for local hospitals. Larry Lohman said Rotary International is encouraging clubs to do something in support of the COVID-19 emergency and that these efforts could be submitted to RI for match grants up to $10,000. Roger said he talked to Shawn Gordon at UH Portage Medical Center and learned that the Geauga Rotary Club is already working on something. President Roger thought perhaps we could partner with that club. Bill Childers said the United Way of Portage County has set up a COVID-19 Fund and is making grants where the need is greatest. Carol Crimi, President of the Kent Rotary Foundation, said the Foundation is ready to respond to the need and requests. More information about these opportunities will be provided in the Rotary Update.
Last week's speaker Michelle Hartman asked what we would most miss when downtown Kent is again open for business. President Roger said the Community Heart & Soul is doing a similar survey. More information on this will be in the Rotary Update.
President Roger informed the members that Laing Kennedy has asked to step aside as the next Program Chair because of a couple situations he needs to take care of currently. The Board has asked, and David Myers has willingly accepted to take over the Program Chair position. Members will need to vote to make the change official. David was thanked and congratulated for stepping up in this leadership role. Laing said he would be supportive and help David as much as he could.
Program: Todd Kamenash then presented Rotary Trivia Day. He presented 20 questions with multiple choice options for answers. Here are the questions with the correct answers.

Todd told members to be on the lookout for an upcoming email asking how many hours of community service you performed in 2019. He asks that you share the projects you've helped with for Rotary and outside of Rotary.
Response was by Laing Kennedy who said the program was well done, enjoyable and a good change of pace in these troubled times.
Respectfully submitted by Anita Herington

President Roger's Digital Meeting Notes-April  14, 2020
I want to thank the 42 Rotarians who joined our digital meeting on Tuesday to have a little light-hearted fun brought to us by our own Todd Kamenash. Checkout the attached Rotareminder for details!  We always find that some of our best weekly programs come from our own membership! With that said, next week’s program will be Kent State May 4 presented by our own Doug Fuller. He brings a firsthand perspective and, based on his other presentations in the past, this should be outstanding! I hope some of you that have yet to digitally join your fellow Rotarians on Tuesdays will sign-in for this timely program.
