Happy Bucks: Paul Organ announced that his son and daughter-in-law are expecting their first child. Asad Khan congratulated Nithya Venkataraman on the upcoming birth (next week!!) of her second child and offered a prediction that he would beat Paul Organ in this week’s bike ride (unlikely, says Paul!!). Jennifer Lennox announced that her daughter has been awarded an NSF grant for study in Sitka, Alaska. Tom Larkin wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and Lee Higgins offered thanks for the harvest season and Kent’s leaf pickup service. Foundation Award: Carol Crimi introduced Kent Police Officer Dominic Poe and his dog Matous, an English Labrador Retriever trained to sniff out firearms and explosives and also act as a therapy dog. Officer Poe and Matous perform their duties at Kent City Schools and occasionally at other area schools. The Kent Rotary Foundation awarded Kent Police $2875 for the training of this remarkable animal, who comes to us from Croatia. President Dave announced that Matous has been made an honorary member of Kent Rotary joining the other illustrious honorary members Todd Diacon, President of Kent State University, and Dave Ruller, Kent’s City Manager. Today’s Program: Jenna Glasure, Manager of Automation Systems for Olsträd Engineering. Asad Khan introduced today’s speaker, Jenna Glasure, a recent graduate of a unique Kent State University program in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering designed to train “Mechatronics Engineers.” Ms. Glasure introduced herself as the youngest of four siblings who grew up in Mechanicstown, Ohio, in Carroll County. She began her work at Olsträd Engineering as an intern and since January 2021 has been a full-time engineer at the firm, which is located in Kent. Olsträd is a leader in the field of robotics, automation systems, and automation integration. Jenna is very pleased to be associated with Olsträd because of the firm’s environmental awareness, focus on hands-on learning, and their multigenerational, collaborative environment. They provide their clients with services including 3D Simulations, 3D and 2D Design, Programming, and Installation of automated systems and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers, the brains of a Robotic Cell). One of Jenna’s responsibilities is working with Interns who come to the company from Kent State, Youngstown State, Akron University, and Case Western Reserve. She likens her managerial role as akin to her experience as a Nanny when she was a college student. She is also called on to represent the company at recruiting and job fairs. She has a special interest in encouraging young women to pursue engineering careers and supports a Kent State program for grade 3 through 8 girls in STEM Education called RoboGirls. Jenna noted that her favorite client is KDI, Kent Displays. Today’s Response: Nithya Venkataraman, who happens to be an employee of KDI, offered the response thanking Jenna for her presentation and congratulating her on an impressive start to her career in engineering..
