Our new teachers program is always a treat and this past Tuesday was no exception! Thank you to Tom Larkin and all of our schoolteachers and administrators for their passion and determination to make the Kent schools safe and welcoming places for the growing young minds in our community. Thank you also to Anthony Horton and his Stanton Middle School staff for providing our meeting location.
This week our road show continues, and we will meet at North Water Brewing Company with lunch provided by Little City Grill. A very big thank you to Amanda Senn for helping organize food for these ‘away’ weeks as well as helping organize the North Water Brewing location. We will begin at our normal time.
I was very happy to deliver several large boxes full of items for the Ben Curtis Family Foundation that we collected in conjunction with this summer’s story walk downtown that our club sponsored. They send home nearly 5,000 ‘birdie bags’ each month with NE Ohio students filled with food and essential personal items for food insecure families. I’m so proud to be a part of a club that so willingly steps up and contributes to local causes! Next month we’ll be hosting the rural relief mobile food pantry at one of our meetings and we’ll have another opportunity to help individuals and families here in Portage County.
Have a great week and see you at North Water Brewing!
Our next meeting will be held at North Water Street Brewery. Join us on Tuesday, August 23, for a lunch buffet catered by Little City Grill. Plenty of parking behind the building.
Carol Crimi thanked members for giving furniture and household items to Yeonmin Kim, who is spending the next academic year in Kent with his two young sons. They still need one twin bed and a good used vehicle. Please call Carol if you can help.
Happy Bucks were collected.
Program: Meet the new teachers from the Kent City Schools
Assistant Superintendent Tom Larkin introduced the program and explained that a number of new teachers were hired this year. He said that the district was fortunate to have a talented pool to choose from, although he has seen a decrease in the number of applicants in the past five years.
