Myers’ Musings – January 4, 2022

Member picture

After a couple of weeks off, I look forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday, January 4th!  Not only do we have a fabulous program by our very own Mary Beth Harper (and we all know how wonderful and fun her programs are!), but we will also be having our election for next year’s officers.  The slate of officers on which we will be voting is below.

In the last couple of days, several members have expressed concerns about the rising cases of Covid in Kent (and seemingly everywhere else).  The question was, “should we be meeting in person?”  I consulted with several board members, the lunch ladies at the Methodist Church, and the Health Department for the City of Kent.  Based on those discussions, I have decided to have our Tuesday meeting in person, but to not serve lunch and to implore those in attendance to wear their masks.  This is ONLY for this Tuesday.

I plan to have further discussions and request feedback from all of you.  I recognize that my decision for our meeting this week is vehemently opposed by some of our members and likely viewed unfavorably by other members.  I have made this decision to protect those of us who may be more vulnerable to the virus and out of an abundance of caution.  My email address is:  kathy.myers@colemanservice.org.  Please let me know your thoughts and the reasoning behind it.  With your input in mind, I will consult with the entire board and let everyone know what to expect for the upcoming few weeks.

In the meantime, I implore you to join the meeting, either in person or via Zoom (the link is in this email).  We need all of us to be the wonderful club we always have been!  Plus, we are voting… and we need you to be in attendance for that.
Here is the slate on which we will be voting on Tuesday.

The dedicated Aces members rehearse at 6:40 am twice per week.  The group is extra curricular so needs to meet outside regular school hours.  Corey told us he is very proud of these young singers and is pleased they can sing for us again after a covid absence.  The songs presented included:  Masters in This Hall, O Christmas Tree, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Sevivon (a Hanukkah song), The Work of Christmas, Joy Shall be Yours in the Morning, Deck the Hall, a 30 second Merry Christmas, Silent Night.  We all joined in singing Silent Night with the Aces.  The group received a standing ovation from Rotary.
Response:
David Dix thanked Corey and the Aces for their wonderful performance.  He said they bring us much joy and brighten our spirits.  He wished them happy holidays and a great New Year.

The meeting was closed with the reciting of the Four Way Test.

Reminder:  No meetings of Rotary on December 21 and 28.  Happy holidays!

Respectfully submitted,
Sue Hetrick
