The park has about 2 miles of trails in total, with the center section being level gravel, and the side trails are dirt. The woods may be buggy. Feel free to bring family, friends, and dogs. Join Rotarians for a walk at Shaw Woods, 7075 Beery Rd, in Ravenna at 5pm on Thursday, September 10. This park has about 2.5 miles of trails with a mix of woods and grassy areas. Join Rotarians for a walk at Trail Lake Park, 605 Ravenna Rd in Streetsboro, on Saturday, October 24 at 9am. The park has a 1.5 mile fully paved loop, as well as a 1.5 mile loop that is partially paved, and part grass and gravel. There is a lake for fishing or boating as well. Feel free to bring family, friends, and dogs. No need to RSVP; just show up.
Shannon at Over Easy At The Depot makes 350 mobile meals every other Monday and is looking for volunteers to help package those meals. Please text Shannon for further details and if you would like to help .

What an inspirational presentation by Akron Rotarian and Master Arborist Tina Graver. It is not easy to get up and tell one’s personal story, especially when Mental Health issues are involved. Tina’s story unfortunately is not a rare one, but is rare to hear It told, and described.
Tina has come a long way in her journey to overcome the obstacles put in her way by a male driven industry. Tina’s story resonated with me in multiple ways. First, being the Father of Two daughters, I do worry about their career paths and success. I have worked in a vary male driven industry for the past 20 plus years, and have seen first hand Tina’s story play out. Very personally, I understand the impact of mental health on one’s self, family, friends, work, etc, as I have battle with anxiety most of my life. I have also seen friends and family suffer from various mental health disorders.
Her story did not end the way it could have! No, as Tina said, sometimes help comes when least expected, and in her case a phone call with a good friend. This story is still being written, but now in a bright light of Happiness, Pride, and Success.
I would ask all of us to take a look at those in our lives and make that phone call. You never know who’s life you might change by this selfless act of kindness.

Doug Fuller invited the group to attend Tap Talks at North Water Brewery Tuesday, August 18, at 7 p.m. Tim Garfield, great, great grandson of President James A. Garfield will talk about the President’s personal and political experiences in Kent and tell other stories about his famous relative.
Chas Madonio reminded folks that the annual Dog Days of Summer is set for Saturday, August 15, in downtown Kent from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On September 22, new members of the Companion Club will be inducted into the Kent Rotary.
On September 29, our meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the home of Sue Whiting, who generously offered to host a “Speak Easy.” Larry will talk about the distilling industry, and tastings and appetizers will be served. Watch for a sign-up sheet.
PROGRAM:
Tina Graver, Board certified Master Arborist, talked about her career journey in a man’s field. She moved back to Kent in 2024 and started her own company, Trees and Gardens Consulting. She holds degrees in botany and environmental science, as well as the highest certificate in her field—one of only 50 in Ohio.
As part of her business, Tina focuses on tree preservation, not cutting down trees. She charges $140 per hour for a consultation. A number of Rotarians asked specific questions about trees and tree care.
Only around 50% of our members completed the training.
Youth Protection training is mandatory per the District and must be done annually
