A note from President Dave
Dear Rotarians,

A big thank you to Todd Kamenash for stepping in and leading a very fun program that helped us get to know several of our members a little bit better! I know once again we had some tech issues for those on zoom which we will continue to work on and fix! I'm looking forward to kicking November off this week to have our own Past District Governor Larry Lohman and fellow Kent Rotarian Steve Dennis talk to us about The Rotary Foundation and the Every Rotarian Every Year program.

We had a lot of fun Friday evening passing out candy at the gazebo downtown as part of Main Street Kent's family friendly downtown Halloween. Thank you to those of you who came and helped pass the candy out as well as to those of you who helped supply the candy.

I don't know how we got to Halloween and November so quickly but here we are nevertheless! I hope everyone enjoyed their last October weekend and I look forward to seeing you at our meeting on Tuesday!

Yours in Service,

Dave

President Dave Myers welcomed Rotarians in person at the United Methodist Church and those viewing online via Zoom.

David Dix was absent today, so Rotarians sang My Country ‘tis of Thee acapella for today’s patriotic song which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dave picked You Are My Sunshine for the second song.

The Invocation was offered by Mary Beth Harper.

Announcements
President Dave Myers thanked everyone that donated items last week to pack the Rural Relief Mobile Food Pantry bus. This year, members donated toiletries and cash to assist.

Brad Ehrhart is seeking volunteers to assist with Rotary’s participation in the upcoming Main Street Kent Cookie Walk. The event will be on December 4 from 12-5 pm. Rotary volunteers are needed to pass out cookies from the gazebo downtown. We are also looking for anyone interested in baking cookies for the event. The club will need 200 individually wrapped cookies to distribute. A sign-up sheet was passed.

Amanda Senn is planning the next Trivia Night at North Water Brewing. It will be on Thursday, November 3rd. Rotarians should also visit Ray’s to purchase the auction item that Ray’s placed on their menu for the month of October.

David McKeen shared that senior service day will be held on November 5 from 8 am – 12 pm. Those interested in volunteering for this event should let him know.

Roberta O’Keefe is looking for Rotarians to sign-up to deliver the weekly prayer at club meetings. A sign-up sheet was circulated.

Dave Myers announced that yesterday was World Polio Day. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is partnering with Rotary to match donations 2-to-1. Donate if you are so inclined, but note that the donation will not count toward your contribution to Every Rotarian, Every Year. Visit endpolio.org to learn more and to donate.

Dave Myers thanked those that donated Halloween candy today and reminded everyone that Main Street Kent’s Family Friendly Trick or Treat will be this Friday from 5-7 pm. Volunteers are needed at the gazebo to pass out candy for Rotary.

Happy Bucks
Two Rotarians had happy news to share today. Brian Bialek congratulated Howard Boyle on his recent induction into the Kent Schools Hall of Fame. Anne Moneypenny shared that she is happy to almost be a Rotary member.

Program – Todd Kamenash
Rotary’s own Todd Kamenash distributed raffle tickets as members arrived at the meeting today. Members were told they could win a prize.

When a raffle ticket was pulled from the basket, the Rotarian with the matching ticket had 90 seconds to share information about themselves with the group. A series of questions was displayed on the screen and Rotarians had to rapid fire answers in the allotted time. Some of the questions included:

What is your name?
Where do/did you work?
What was your first job?
Do you have any hidden talents?
Favorite beverage and who would you have it with?
Outside the US where is your favorite place to visit?
What is something that we probably don’t know about you?
Where is your happy place?

Rotarians providing answers included: Todd Kamenash, Amanda Senn, Larry Wright, David Sommers, Sandra Reid, Tom Myers, Stacey Richardson, Matt Carter, Laing Kennedy, Christie Anderson, Jim Myers, Tom Hatch, Chas Madonio and Denise Baba.

The program was a great way to learn more about each other and it provided many laughs along the way.

Today’s responder to the program was Christie Anderson.

We finished the meeting by reciting the 4-way test.
