Visiting Rotarians There were no visiting Rotarians today. Guests Kathy Myers introduced Candace Curtis from the Ben Curtis Family Foundation. Announcements Dave Myers announced that staring next week meetings will resume at the United Methodist Church and thanked Amanda Senn for arranging lunches for our summer road trip meetings. Amanda Senn thanked Bob Mayfield and Don Schjeldahl for hosting us today at North Water Brewing. She also announced that the next happy hour will be held on September 7 at the new Bar Lucci. Coming up at the end of September we will participate in Trivia Night at North Water Brewing. More details for each event will be coming. Larry Lohman shared the sad news about the passing of Past District Governor Jack Young. Jack was a very active Rotarian in our district and will be missed. Happy Bucks Many Rotarians had happy news to share today including: Dave Myers, Ben Wolford, Kathy Myers, Bill Russell, Paul Organ, Larry Lohman, Bill Childers, Sherry Joy, Roger Kramer, Amanda Senn, George Joseph, Roger Sidoti and Nithya Venkataraman. Program – Youth Protection Officer Training Dave Myers and Todd Kamenash began today’s program with a Family Feud style game asking Rotarians to name Kent Rotary events in which youth attend or participate. Surprisingly, there were eight categories listed which reminded all of us how often our club members have the opportunity to interact with young people while serving as Rotarians. The game was a nice segue into today’s presentation about the importance of a Youth Protection program when working with anyone under the age of 18. Both Dave and Todd have attended training to serve as the Youth Protection Officers for our club. In addition, Todd has participated in an investigation at the district level. They shared important information about what happens should an incident with a young person occur at a Rotary function including: - What to do when a youth tells you about an incident
- How to report an incident appropriately
- What to avoid doing when responding to an incident
- The investigation process for the district when an incident occurs
- Consequences after an incident
If any other club members are interested in attending the training to become a youth protection officer for our club please let Todd or Dave know. Today’s responder to the program was Rebekah Wright Kulis. Respectfully submitted, Stacey Richardson
