STUDENT OF THE MONTH Filling in for Principal Anthony Horton, Kathy Scott introduced this month's Stanton Middle School Student of the Month, Lilly Karpinecz. Lilly was joined by her parents. PROGRAM Nithya Venkataraman, this month's program chair, introduced Don Davis. Don is the Director of Business Development and Technical Services at Kent Displays/Boogie Board. Don joined us on Zoom today from his home in South Carolina. Don's presentation today is titled Be Flexible. In addition to Don's tremendous work achievements at Kent Displays, Nithya pointed out that Don is quite the foodie, friend, networker, and traveler. Don admitted to also being a woodworker and proud grandfather. As a child, Don was always interested in machines, including big trucks. Don earned degrees in physics from Thiel College and Oklahoma State University and started his career at McDowell Douglas where he worked with lasers. That job was followed by a variety of positions at the Liquid Crystal Institute, Kent Displays, Hana Technologies, and Avery Dennison before he returned to Kent Displays for a second round. At Kent Displays, he is a remote employee working to develop teams and business opportunities. He also enjoys mentoring others and networking. He shared information about the manufacturing lines at Kent Displays including the roll to roll operation and roll to part operation used to create Boogie Boards. His current position includes looking for ways to grow Kent Display's business by exploring other things they can make in addition to Boogie Boards. This was spurred by Kent Displays manufacturing face shields for front line workers during the COVID 19 pandemic. Don also works on obtaining new customers for whom Kent Displays can provide manufacturing. Don is excited to focus on automation and clean initiatives within the manufacturing industry going forward. In his free time, Don enjoys sharing experiences with his grandchildren, smoking meat, and traveling abroad, noting recent trips to Finland and Aruba. Today’s responder to the program was Randy Smith who is also a proud grandfather and a woodworker. We finished the meeting by reciting the 4-way test.
