I enjoyed our speaker this past week and his message of helping to build community. The more we know and learn from each other the better we are able to impact and give back to our community. We’re fortunate to have people and programs available to us like Kurt Ruehr and Leadership Portage County!
Speaking of Curt, we said farewell to Curt Stumpf on Tuesday who was kind enough to visit us one last time before moving to Colorado. Curt was an active Rotarian who served this club for several years as a dedicated board member – he and his family will be missed!
In more happy news we congratulate now Past District Governor Larry Lohman! Larry had an excellent year serving as the District Governor and the official banner exchange and awards ceremony was a great event this past week. Larry is our club’s third District Governor and we are grateful for his leadership and service to Rotary – Thank you Larry!!
Lastly, it came to my attention that the Kent Social Services shelves are quite literally bare. I’d like to ask you all to consider bringing canned food or shelf stable items to our meeting on Tuesday to do our part to help their good work in our community. I’ll also pass the hat to raise cash funds if you are able to donate that way. Thanks to Rebekah Wright Kulis for her help and action to support Kent Social Services and our community!
Kent Blues Fest Party on July 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.: Amanda Senn invited Rotarians to a free concert on the patio downtown sponsored by Metis Construction.
Thank you to Dr. Steve Belli: On behalf of the Kent Rotary Foundation, President Carol Crimi thanked Steve for his seven years of service on the Board. Steve has served on numerous committees and generously hosted meetings at his home and office.
Dues due: Yearly dues of $225 are due. If you want to pay via Venmo, please pay $230 to cover the charge from Venmo.
Thanks from Larry Lohman: Immediate Past District Governor Larry thanked club members for their support during his term. He encouraged others to take district leadership positions.
Goodbye to Curt Stumpf: Curt, who has been a member of our club since 2014, is moving with his family to Colorado. He said goodbye to club members and expressed his thanks for the opportunity to “give a hand and serve his community.”
Program: Kurt Ruehr, Executive Director of Leadership Portage County
A lifetime resident of Portage County, Kurt Ruehr outlined the mission of Leadership Portage County and detailed the opportunities and future plans of the group. Members of the yearly class visit interesting sites and hear speakers as part of their program. Now in its 30th year, many members of Rotary have participated in “building community together.”
In fact, Anita Herrington, Doug Fuller and David Dix were initial organizers.
